Recurrent urethritides

An examinee’s wife was suffering from recurrent UTIs over the last … 7 years! Although her gynecologist recommended each time an antibiotic regimen for her, the husband was not advised to follow any treatment as he was not presenting any symptoms. His semen analysis revealed several signs of inflammation and for this reason we proceeded to a microbiological examination which detected a bacterium and the urologist recommended an antibiotic treatment for both partners. In two subsequent microbiological examinations no bacteria were detected and four months after the initial semen analysis, his semen parameters were inside physiological values.

CONCLUSIONThe treatment of chronic or recurrent urinary tract infections, urethritis, vaginitis, fungal infections (mycosis), prostatitis and generally urogenital infections should always involve both partners, but since their treatment differs between men and women, men should always consult their urologist.
